Thrilled to be invited to host a full-length performance of “1918 – The Untold Stories of the Great War” at Sidmouth Folk Week! Get it into your diaries – Sunday, 4th August, 2.15pm at the Manor Pavilion Theatre.
I’ll be accompanied by the fantastic Sidmouth Town Band and, hopefully, a couple of special guests.
Featuring songs such as “The Lily And The Rose”, “The Padre” and “The Christmas Truce”, “1918” is a chronological journey through some of the less-celebrated characters and events of the Great War, combining history, anecdotes and a wealth of music inspired by styles, sounds and instrumentation popular in that age.
Photo insert: my grandfather, 2nd Lt. Richard Aloysius Hoban, British West Indies Regiment (8th Battalion). Photographed in Rome, 1918, having just been received in audience by Pope Benedict XV. Shortly after this he was present at the mutiny in Taranto, southern Italy, in December 1918 (the inspiration for the song “No Parades”.)
Chris Hoban is a Devon based composer, singer, songwriter and performer.
