“No Parades” & “1918” Saturday 27th October

Thrilled to rehearse last night with Sidmouth Town Band and hear for the first time the silver band treatment of the song “No Parades”, which will receive its debut performance on Saturday 27th October at Sidmouth Parish Church, 7.30pm.

Commissioned by “Away From The Western Front”, the song details the very poor treatment of the British West Indies Regiment leading up to the Mutiny at Taranto in December 1918. There is a family connection, too; my grandfather, Richard Hoban was one of the officers caught up in the mutiny and given the tricky task of being the commanding officer on the ship that took the disgraced soldiers home.

The song is part of my WW1 centenary project “1918” and I hope to be announcing some new performance dates here shortly.
